Animals have spelen a role in stories for centuries. Especially in folk tales and fairy tales, animals are given a leading role. Here in the Doing Attic, some stories come to leven!

Four different stories are displayed there. Different stories from different cultures that can all be found in Gorinchem. Stories you grew up with or perhaps never heard of. For example, do you already know Kantjil? A clever little dwarf from Indonesia. Or Anansi the spider from Surinam? Get to know these and other stories better here in the Doing Attic!

Besides an introduction to different stories, there is much more to do. Grab a book and unwind in the reading corner, climb fast and smart like Anansi, take on the challenge of riding a camel or draw an animal like illustrator Ramona Treffers and create your own story!

Get to work! There is always something to do in the Doing Attic. Build your own animal, for example!

Get to work with the big blocks and build your own animal! What kind of animal? It doesn't matter. Build an existing animal or let your imagination run wild and make a fantasy animal! Is it an animal with legs? Or wings? Is it big or small? Anything goes!

Tip!

Before you start building, think about where your animal lives, how it moves and what kind of food it likes.

Or draw your own animal

Using pencil and paper, you will learn step by step how to make a complete animal from simple shapes, such as circles and ovals. First you build a solid base, then you add the details so that your animal echt comes to leven. There are two books in the Doing Attic to help you with this.

Do you find it difficult and want to start small? Then grab the book "Hooray! I'm learning to draw animals". Are you ready for a challenge? Then grab the book "Drawing animals in 10 steps". Both books take you step by step through drawing animals.

Choose an animal that suits you. An elephant for example, a cat, dog or a fantasy animal you think up yourself! Before you start drawing, you can fill in the Animal Passport. By first thinking about where the animal lives, what it eats or how big it is, you might come up with ideas of what the animal will look like.
