Do you know what a rolling horse is and why residents who lived near the rampart were soms not allowed to light their stove? And do you know why nobody in Gorinchem was allowed to know what went on in De Luisterpost? The guides of the Werkgroep Vesting Gorinchem will explain it to you in detail. They specialise in the history of Gorinchem as a fortified town and its defence against 'the enemy' with the use of the surrounding water to do so. You will hear the often centuries-old origin of words like Bastion, Casemate and Arsenal.

This two-and-a-half-hour walk along the western side of the ramparts brings you the story of 'the lost bastion', leads you past the Caponnière, de Luisterpost, the Melkheulduiker, the VIS casemate and much more. Located between Linge and Merwede, good 'water management' was also vital in past centuries. You will pass a special and ingenious example of this: the Waaiersluis. In short: with the local guide of the Werkgroep Vesting Gorinchem you will hear and see more!
