A delightful, heart-stopping film set in a tiny village in the middle of the Scottish Highlands, at the most important time of the year. For 30 years, dedicated porridge fanatics have been competing for the coveted Golden Spurtle at the World Oat Porridge Making Championships. A hilarious documentary that unfolds as an ode to the warm, lovely locals and participants; each and every one a little eccentric, unflappable and blessed with delightfully dry humour. Since the Stone Age, few culinary traditions have held up as well as the nutritious bowl of porridge in the morning. This World Cup celebrates the world's oldest recipe! Charismatic lynchpin of the event is Charlie Miller. Despite his frail health, he is once again pulling out all the stops to make the tournament a success and secure his legacy. The fun and pride of this small, close-knit community radiates from every scene. With a good dose of Scottish self-mockery, the Australian director and cameraman manage to create a playful, nostalgic atmosphere, as if they have uncovered a hidden world in the middle of Scotland. A world reminiscent of a Wes Anderson film, including a perfectly matching music score. A film that teaches you that getting your porridge right is harder than nuclear physics, that you should always stir clockwise, because otherwise...! But which above all, even though you may not like porridge at all, makes you leave the cinema with a particularly warm and blissful feeling. A small benevolent miracle of a film.
