Open Monument Day, 12 September 2026

On Saturday 12 September, during Open Monument Day, you can discover Gorinchem’s unique heritage. Various monuments will open their doors free of charge, introducing you to the rich history of our fortified town.

Visit historic churches, windmills, kruitmagazijnen and museums, amongst other attractions. Take a look inside stoomsleepboot Jan de Sterke , join a guided walk or climb the Grote Toren for a magnificent view over Gorinchem. Advance booking is required for some free guided tours.

This year’s theme is ‘Resilient heritage in times of uncertainty’. Discover how historic buildings and fortifications have been preserved, renovated and given new purposes over the centuries.
