Enjoy the late summer in the heart of Gorcum
The summer holidays are over, but fortunately that doesn’t mean summer is over. September can still be wonderfully sunny. The perfect time to head into town! The first new autumn collections are on display in the shops, whilst outside you might still be sitting on a terrace in just a T-shirt. A touch of summer and a taste of the new season. In Hartje Gorcum, you can have both.
Shop the new season
Gradually, the summer items in the shops are making way for new colours, materials and trends. The first autumn collections are trickling in, making this a wonderful time to go on a proper shopping spree again.
From fashion and shoes to accessories and homeware: you’ll discover plenty of new things at the local businesses in Hartje Gorcum. Why not pop into a shop you’d normally walk past, get some advice and find inspiration for the new season?
And the best thing about shopping in the city centre? There’s always a great spot for a coffee, lunch or a tasty treat in between.

Make the most of those last rays of sunshine
Of course, new autumn collections in the shops don’t mean we’re saying goodbye to summer just yet. As soon as the sun comes out, the terraces in Hartje Gorcum will once again be bustling with people.
Find a spot on the Grote Markt, enjoy the shade under the trees on the Varkenmarkt or settle down by the Lingehaven. It’s particularly lovely to soak up the late summer sun here at the end of the afternoon.
A cup of coffee, a tasty lunch or perhaps an early drink. Why go home when it’s still so lovely outside?

Take a tour of the town
Late summer is also a wonderful time to explore Gorinchem on foot. It is often not as hot as in the height of summer, but still warm enough to enjoy spending plenty of time outdoors.
Take a stroll along the city ramparts, walk past the Lingehaven and head towards Buiten de Waterpoort for views over the river. From there, you can easily walk straight back into the historic city centre.
Along the way, you’ll pass shops, studios, restaurants and cafés, and plenty of lovely spots to stop for a while. Even if you know Gorinchem well, there’s always something new to discover on a walk like this.
Time for a coffee and a treat
Fancy a break from shopping? We’ve got plenty of places for that in Hartje Gorcum. Find a cosy coffee shop and enjoy a good cappuccino, an iced coffee if it’s still warm, or something tasty to go with it.
The great thing about this time of year is that anything goes. You can enjoy an iced coffee on a terrace wearing your sunglasses, or head indoors for a hot coffee. We’ll just have to see what the Dutch weather brings.

Stay a little longer for dinner
As the afternoon draws to a close, the town takes on a different atmosphere. The shops gradually close their doors, the outdoor cafés remain cosy, and the sun sinks a little lower.
A lovely way to round off your day in the heart of Gorcum with a drink or dinner. Find a spot by the water, in one of the squares or in one of the charming streets of the town centre and savour the moment a little longer.
