Fancy a night out? Here are some unique B&Bs in Gorinchem
The picturesque fortress of Gorinchem has many hidden gems. Just away from the shopping streets, you will find the nicest buildings and monuments. Soms you can even sleep in them! Look no further; here are the best tips for a B&B with history near Gorinchem.
B&B The Fortress Triangle
At the end of 2018, Ron and Martine bought a double house in the cosy Burgstraat in the heart of Gorinchem. Ron really wanted to run a B&B alongside his job, just because it's fun. The spacious property lends itself perfectly to that! After a thorough refurbishment, they are now happy to welcome guests in the cosy dining/living room. The historical details immediately catch the eye: the sideboards, the wooden floor and the tiles in the hallway, it fits the premises perfectly. Consequently, guests love sitting there. Martine: " In the evening, everyone actually sits here instead of in their rooms. You can play games, read, chat and see all sorts of things outside. Burgstraat is a very lively little street."
You won't be bothered by that liveliness at night, by the way. There are two luxurious studios for guests on the ground floor: studio Jan van der Heyden and studio Hendrick Hamel. Both studios face a large courtyard garden and offer plenty of peace and privacy. Here, too, there is an eye for history; the names of the studios refer to two heroes of Gorcum. The couple has a lot in common with the history of Gorcum; Ron even became a Gorcumologist. Martine: "We get guests who echt want to see something of Gorinchem. So we like to give them tips. Places like Theatre 't Pand, for example, make the soul of the city. Gorinchem is a village with city facilities, a mix of Brabant cosiness, Dutch sobriety and the sweetness of Gelderland. We fell for that ourselves."

B&B De Goesting
Goesting is a typical Flemish word for desire, lust or appetite. And that's certainly what you get when you see this B&B! The location on the idyllic little river Linge could not be more beautiful; right on the water and yet right in the historical centre of Gorinchem. The B&B is a self-contained flat for 4 with its own entrance, good wifi and waterside terrace. Nice details: there is a real box bed for 2 persons and a loft for 2 persons. Hostess Christine makes sure the fridge is stocked so you are completely self-sufficient.
Another plus: this B&B has its own spacious parking area for your car, bike or boat. Christine: "We have a lot of cyclists and Germans in season. But also families visiting here and people working night shifts. It actually runs all year round. Guests who stay a bit longer can also use our canoe for free. Ideal for a trip on the Linge!"

The Tolhuis
If you want a echt historic experience, the Tolhuis is the place to be. This national monument was built in 1598 to collect toll. All ships passing by Gorinchem had to pay toll here. It is therefore beautifully located on the river and towers above the fortress wall. Truly a room with a view!
The Tolhuis has had all kinds of functions over the centuries. A few years ago, it was restored and the stair tower was converted into a Monument and Bed. It is a fully equipped cottage for two people that you can rent for a minimum of two nights. When you book, you get an access code, so you have the place all to yourself. Step out of the door and you are right on the rampart. And the ferry for a trip through the Fortress Triangle is right outside the door. A fantastic place in a unique location!

Sleeping in a Vort
Sleeping in a 19th-century fort; another unique historical experience! Fort Vurig is located just outside Gorinchem and is especially popular with hikers and cyclists. This sturdy fort was once part of the New Dutch Waterline. Now you can eat, drink and sleep here. The fortress is located near a nature reserve where you can enjoy strolling along the river. During the summer season, you can also hop on a ferry here to Woudrichem and Slot Loevestein.
More and more people are discovering this special place. Hostess Violet: "They come here for the peace and quiet, the nature and the atmosphere. And they stay longer and longer. We have something for everyone; from simple, cheap rooms to a luxury B&B or a complete Fortlodge (for a minimum of 2 nights). All sturdily furnished, but fully equipped. And do you like camping? Then bring your own tent and find a nice spot by the campfire. With the Waal, the floodplains and a beach on your doorstep, there is plenty to do. On request, we also offer outdoor yoga classes. And you can rent bikes from us to explore the area. We always advise our guests to walk or cycle to Gorinchem, highly recommended!"

B&B Gorinchem Centrum
The former doctor's house in the Zusterstraat has been transformed into a comfortable Bed and Breakfast. The spacious mansion from 1887 has four guest rooms: two single and two double. One of the rooms has a beautiful view of the Grote Kerk and Tower, a fifth room is already in the works. But with a spacious lounge, kitchen and courtyard garden, you actually have a whole flat at your disposal. Right in the centre of Gorinchem!
Foreign guests are also welkom here. Hostess Mame has years of experience with international requirements and knows better than anyone else what her guests want. Service and hospitality are her second nature. Mame: "I give my guests personal attention and warmth. If they come by plane, I offer a pick-up service from Schiphol, and the fact that I speak four languages comes in handy. But above all, hospitality is key. They feel at home here and like coming back!"

Suite No. 3
On the old Kalkhaven there are a couple of nice places to stay. Suite No. 3 is, of course, at no. 3. Here, hosts Nell and Koos have decorated a luxury suite on the ground floor of their home with great attention to detail. "Luxurious, but not over the top," according to Nell. Everything is focused on experience; the lovely Auping bed, the spacious bathroom with rain shower, the kettle that you can set to different degrees, fridge and TV with Netflix or cable, right down to the Gorcum gift waiting for you on arrival. Quality and taste can also be found in the vegan (bath) products, coffee and tea.
Experience is not only inside, but also outside the suite. As soon as you step out of your (own) door, you are already in the fortress and ready to go. Nell: "Gorinchem is actually small Amsterdam; nature, history and city life, you have it all within walking distance here."
