Impression Listening Post, regarding the part with pre-1963 equipment.

In 1955 (beginning of the Cold War), a special unit of the Liaison Service of the Army came to the Gorinchem Fortress; the 105 Radio Reconnaissance Battalion. This unit took up two Listening Posts; one in Gorinchem and one at Fort Vuren.

Their top-secret task was to verzamelen military intelligence by eavesdropping on the military radio traffic of Russian units in East Germany, the former GDR. This unit changed names a few times and would leave Gorinchem again in 1967 as the 898 Radio Battalion.

In this mini museum, this special episode in Gorinchem's long history is kept alive: by exhibiting the radio eavesdropping equipment used at the time in working order.
The technical volunteers refurbish and tune the equipment so that a functioning listening and sounding station can be demonstrated.
