Here in Gasthuisstraat at number 36 was Jacob de Kroes' bakery since 1849. Jacob bought the bakery from his boss for 2,125 guilders. He invented the savoury biscuits that grew into a speciality: the Gorcum Salt Bollen.
The salty shortbread biscuits are still available in the gold-coloured tin. For example, at the VVV and various Gorcum supermarkets. This mural is from 1937 and was obviously meant to advertise those oven-fresh delicious Gorcumse Salt Bollen.
