Oostmolen
Contact
The Oostmolen, built in 1817, served as a polder mill, just like the Westmolen.
Their predecessors were set on fire by French troops during the siege of Gorinchem in 1813 and it was hoped to make do with just one mill later. This proved not to be the case, so the Oostmolen was rebuilt in 1817.
In 1906, there were plans to replace the Oostmolen with a steam pumping station with driver's house, but these were not carried out. In 1973, the municipality of Gorinchem became the owner of both seesaw mills. They were subsequently restored in 1981 and 1982. The Van Bussel cradle system, installed in 1943, disappeared as a result. Since 1987, the Oostmolen has been occupied by a volunteer miller who turns the mill regularly.
