Versatile Gorinchem and Slot Loevestein (group)

10.00-10.45 hrs:

You are expected in restaurant De Hoofdwacht where coffee and cake will be waiting for you. Here you will be picked up by the VVV guide.

10.45-12.15 hrs:

The VVV guide(s) will take you for a walk through the beautiful fortified town of Gorinchem.

12.15-13.45 pm:

Your lunch will be waiting for you at restaurant Metropole or grand-cafe 't Gelagh (depending on availability). The guide will take you to your lunch address.

14.15-14.45 hrs:

You sail from Gorinchem to Slot Loevestein with Riveer. The cruise has a timeless charm enjoyed by young and old alike. Sailing with a view of beautiful dikes, floodplains and fortifications is an experience in itself. In Woudrichem, you transfer to another Riveer boat (or the small foot ferry) that takes you to Loevestein. Outside regular sailing hours, we hire a water taxi; you'll be told when you book.

15.00 - 16.30 hrs:

Upon arrival at Slot Loevestein, you can independently explore the fortress and castle at your own pace, start presentations and hear stories. Slot Loevestein is more than a medieval castle. It was the state prison of the Netherlands. And it is also a fortress in the Dutch Waterline. With its earthen ramparts, double moats, bombproof shelter and street of soldiers' houses, the fortress still exudes the atmosphere of an eighteenth-century soldier's village. Explore and learn how to shoot muskets, explode gunpowder and flood the fortress with the water game. With permanent and temporary exhibitions, there is plenty to do.

16:45 - 17:45:

You leave the imposing castle and sail back to Gorinchem via the beautiful fortified town of Woudrichem. In Woudrichem, you board the boat back to Gorinchem at 17.30 (or by water taxi outside the season).

Details

Slot Loevestein is open daily, with the exception of Christmas Day, New Year's Day and New Year's Day. During the weekends and in the months of July and August you can travel from Gorinchem to Slot Loevestein by regular ferry. Outside of that, by water taxi.

PLEASE NOTE: if you book with a Museum Card or one of the other accepted passes, you will have to show it at the entrance of Slot Loevestin!
