Alleys are narrow passages connecting main streets and are an important part of the cityscape. Often facing the river Linge, they used to have a lively character full of trade and activity. Although the alleys traditionally mainly accommodated the less well-off, today they are part of Gorinchem's authentic character. Some alleys have been affected by the urban renewal of the 1960s and 1970s, but fortunately, many alleys have been well preserved and still exude history.
