Special bookshops for extra reading pleasure
As the days grow shorter, we look for more entertainment at home. And what could be better on a dark evening than curling up on the sofa with a good book? Gorinchem has special bookshops where you can find lots of inspiration. We take you to five bookshops where you can stock up for the autumn. Also a good idea for a Saint Nicholas or Christmas present!
Boekhandel De Mandarijn
Have you ever been to Livraria Lello in Porto? Or walked into Shakespeare & Company in Paris? Then you will also like De Mandarijn in Gorinchem. Gorcum's oldest bookshop is in one of the fortress's most beautiful monuments: Dit is in Bethlehem from 1566. Be sure to check out the facade before you go inside; a sight not missing from any city walk. Once inside, you can indulge yourself as a lover of Dutch and English literature. There is also a wide range of quality books and fun gifts for children.
The MandarinThe bookcase
The Book Chest owes its name to the chest in which bookworm Hugo de Groot escaped from Slot Loevestein to Gorinchem. It is a modern bookshop where you will find the latest books in all kinds of genres; from fiction to gardening books and from children's books to cookery books. There is also plenty of choice in games, souvenirs, greeting cards and gifts. Owner Dieter gives personal reading tips and is also happy to deliver your order at home if you can't or don't want to go out.
The BookcaseGorinchem Library
Do you devour books? Then consider the library. But the library in Gorinchem is no longer just for books. You can also borrow audio books, CDs, DVDs and magazines. Or just drop in to read the newspaper, work or take part in one of the activities or courses. As a member, you also have access to digital services such as e-books, eMusic, eListenbooks, free wifi and the BiebApp. And it is the place where you meet your favourite author, see the best films and do the most fun workshops. The library is there for everyone, even if you don't read much!
