Fort Bakkerskil, located in Nieuwendijk, was built between 1877 and 1880 on a weak spot in the defence line. This fort belongs to the New Dutch Waterline. During periods of mobilisation, especially during 1914-1918 and 1939-1940, Fort Bakkerskil was mainly used to provide shelter. Thus, the fort housed up to 100 soldiers. Since 1951, the fort has not been used for military purposes.
Now Fort Bakkerskil is a beautiful Bed and Breakfast. If you spend the night here, you can enjoy beautiful, spacious rooms. Flats with private cooking facilities are also available. All accommodation comes with free Wi-Fi, a wardrobe and a private entrance on the ground floor. Most rooms come with a private bathroom with a shower or bathtub and a toilet.
