Story
At the height of this bastion and the stone bear stood the great Blauwe Toren, after which the castle was named. The tower was almost 40 m. in diameter, then one of the thickest towers in Europe. The tower was made of grey Belgian bluestone, then called bluestone here (and still in Belgium). When the Beggars came to the city, the monks sought refuge in the castle. However, there were not enough soldiers and they had to surrender to the Beggars.
