Westmolen
Contact
The Westmolen, built in 1817, used to be like a polder mill. The mill served to replace an earlier mill destroyed by French troops in 1813 during the siege of Gorinchem.
After both the Westmolen and Oostmolen went out of operation, they are enclosed by various sports fields, roads and, above all, a lot of trees and bushes. This is bad for the mills and hinders their functioning. In 1973, the municipality of Gorinchem bought the mills. They were subsequently restored in 1981 and 1982. In the process, the Westmolen retained its fairing blades of the van Bussel system. Like the Oostmolen, the mill is occupied by a volunteer miller. This person operates the mill very regularly.
