Het kledingrek

A clothes rack with a cat on it. What's the story?
Around the corner here you can see the former Holy Ghost Chapel. Now the chapel is part of a fashion shop.

The chapel is from the 15th century. Until about 1572 it was used by the Holy Ghost Fathers. They distributed goods to the poor here. No doubt including clothing. Eight garments have remained, as you can see. The cat spins its yarn.

Do you know that expression, making a profit on something? It means that business is booming, you make a nice profit. This certainly applies to Gorinchem throughout the centuries. There has always been a lot of trade and activity here. From beer brewers and pipe makers to carpenters and silversmiths.

By the way, see the modern symbol that artist JanIsDeMan printed on one of the garments?
