Batterij onder Poederoijen is one of the last extensions of the New Dutch Waterline. During the Franco-German War (1870), it turned out that the waterline could not withstand the new artillery and therefore had to be adapted. Batterij onder Poederoijen had to guard the Meuse and, together with Batterij onder Brakel, protect the inundation field (flooded terrain) in the Bommelerwaard and the inundation sluices.
On Batterij onder Poederoijen you will now find Brasserie de Buurman, where you can enjoy lunch, drinks or coffee.
