The batterij onder Poederoijen from 1879-1886 had to defend the passage of the river Maas (now dammed up) and the northern Maasdijk in the Dutch Waterline. It also protected the now-defunct sluice on the Maas, which could be used for inundation of the Bommelerwaard. Brasserie de Buurman was built on the site where the former Fort watchman's house stood from 1880 to 1957. With over 40 seats inside and an outdoor terrace with over 70 seats, this is a great place to take a break during your bike ride and enjoy coffee, lunch or drinks.
