At the foot of the Grote Toren is the memorial, reflection and meeting centre In de Toren. This is where the artwork The Light Funnel by Utrecht visual artist Corrie van de Vendel has been installed. Some 1,000 plastic wires guide the light from outside to inside, come together in a knot and end in a bundle of stainless steel tubes that seem to disappear in a hollow in the floor. In these tubes, visitors can leave a written message. There is a bulge in front of the tower's entrance. Anyone stepping on this will notice that sensors switch on the light in the room. If during the day the light falls into the space, at night the light actually radiates outwards. The symbolism behind this idea is the continuation of leven.
