The month of March is buzzing with activities in Gorinchem! Whether you like sporting events, culture or fun workshops, this month too there is something for everyone. Here are some highlights to note down in your diary:
Carnival | 28 February - 4 March
Gorinchem turns into Bliekenstad and that means only one thing: four days of festivities! From Friday 28 February to Monday 3 March, there will be plenty of carnival celebrations at various locations. On Saturday 1 March, the big carnival parade will pass through the city, a colourful spectacle full of floats and revelers. After the parade, the party will continue at various locations, such as Fifth Exit and Party Centre Kolfbaan with the Kinder Carnval on Sunday afternoon 2 March and the Suprise Afternoon on Monday afternoon 3 March.
City walk: international women's day | 8 March
On Saturday 8 March, the Gorinchem city council will organise a special city walk to mark International Women's Day. A city guide will take you along special places in the city and tell you about the strong women who have played an important role in Gorcum's history. The walk starts at 14:00 at the Gorcums Museum Museum, lasts about 1.5 hours and is free of charge. Registration is possible until 5 March via the button below.
RegisterCultural Sunday | 9 March
During Cultural Sunday on 9 March, studios, galleries and cultural institutions will open their doors for an inspiring afternoon of art and music. From the first day of each month, the complete programme will be online. Participants and locations can be recognised by a blue flag.

Take part in the fifth edition of the Inofec Vestingloop, a running event for all ages and levels. Choose from the 1 km Family Run, 5 km, 10 km or the Half Marathon. For walking enthusiasts, there is a 5 km walk along the historic vestingwallen. The start and finish are in Wilhelminapark. Registration is possible until 8 March 2025.
Celebrate spring | 20 March
Finally! Spring officially starts on 20 March, which means we can enjoy the city to the full again. The days are getting longer, the sun is coming out more often and the terraces are filling up with fun. Settle down at one of the cosy catering establishments, enjoy a good glass of wine or a tasty lunch and get a delicious ice cream at one of the ice cream parlours in the city centre again. Celebrate the start of the new season!
Shopping Sunday | 30 March
Every last Sunday of the month is shopping Sunday in the fortress. The shops in the centre of Gorinchem are generally open from 12.30 to 17.00. Not all retailers have the same opening hours and not all shops are open. Check here which shops are open every shopping Sunday.
